I only knew Gary as a very quiet guy in High School, but I ran into him later in life when i was playing in a softball tournament in Romeo in the 70's. I was an outfielder and I recognized Gary when he came up to bat. Knowing how quiet and reserved he was in school, I came in a few steps. Big mistake, he hit a ball so far over my head that by the time I picked it up he was already crossing the plate.
